Membership Criteria
PRIMER New Member Criteria as of August 2010
Our Mission
PRIMER is a select network of Latino executives and like-minded leaders who create opportunities to build and leverage relationships. We achieve our mission through the sharing of common values and resources for the success of our members and our communities.
Candidate Criteria
- Shall be an executive in a corporation, academia or in a not for profit, an entrepreneur or be in a professional position.
- May be Latino, or of any other ethnic or racial background, provided that said candidate has shown that he/she is committed to the advancement of Latinos in the U.S.
- Shall be an executive, ideally no more than 3 levels from CEO, in corporate America or be in a professional position with significant influence in a private or public organization or institution (or retired from such a position).
- Shall be a Founder, President, "C-level" executive or have a majority stake in a business enterprise with a valuation in excess of $2 million. The PRIMER Board may request a statement of valuation of a privately held business enterprise.
- Must have significant influence in their organization or institution, in business and the community at large and have the ability to make decisions on behalf of their companies, have a budget that they manage and control, and be strong at networking. Said positions shall entail and require of the applicant experience, maturity, leadership and expertise in a particular field.
- Must demonstrate a record of achievement by way of leadership, excellence and performance in his or her field, and must enjoy a good reputation in the field and in the community at large.
Candidate Application Requirements
Applications are active for 30 days. Incomplete application will be deleted at that time and must be redone. We recommend that you complete your personal statement in word and copy to PRIMER.
- The candidate must attend one (1) or two (2) PRIMER networking sessions/dinners in a 12-month period prior to applying for membership. The number of dinners required is at the discretion of the PRIMER board.
- The applicant must be sponsored by at least two (2) current PRIMER members who are eligible and in good standing as determined by the Board of Directors. Members in good standing can only sponsor 2 applicants each calendar year.
- The candidate must secure an application password from the sponsor or VP of membership prior to application.
- The applicant shall complete, in its entirety, a PRIMER online membership application form, including a personal statement indicating:
- what contributions he or she can make to PRIMER
- why he or she should be admitted as a member
- other positions and memberships in other organizations in order to enable the Board to assess the candidate’s ability to devote time to PRIMER to make a substantive contribution to its members.
Expectations of candidates who become members (as dictated in PRIMER by-laws)
- They must commit to be engaged with fellow PRIMER members, to conduct business and offer support.
- They must commit to attending PRIMER dinners and networking events. Their invited guests should be potential candidates and meet the membership criteria
- They must be committed to PRIMER’s mission, to its members and to uphold PRIMER’s reputation.
- They should recognize the costs of participating in PRIMER events, and be able to bear those costs individually. PRIMER is a national organization and events are held throughout the continental USA. Members must pay membership dues within 30 days of receiving an invoice.
Interested candidates must ensure they meet the above membership criteria prior to applying. The PRIMER Board of Directors at its sole and absolute discretion has the right to make all decisions regarding PRIMER, including but not limited to the acceptance of applicants. The candidates’ acceptance into PRIMER membership is at the discretion of the board.
Joining PRIMER
An online application may be submitted by the applicant to the PRIMER Membership Committee. The Membership Chair shall recommend to the Board of Directors of PRIMER the admission of new members. Applications will be saved for 30 days. If they have not been approved in the 30 day period, the application will be deleted and must be reinitiatiated.
