Steven Mendez, CPA

Steven Mendez is a Senior Manager and the National Resident for the Retail and Wholesale Sector at Ernst & Young, LLP (“E&Y”), working within the Metro NY Retail and Consumer Products division. Prior to joining E&Y, Steve worked within the Consumer & Industrial Products & Services industry at PWC, where he also served multinational clients in a variety of industry sectors including retail, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.

In addition to his client serving role, Steven has been involved with company sponsored programs, such as Junior Achievement, NY Cares and March of Dimes and has worked closely with local and national leadership on strategies involving diversity recruitment and retention, and inclusiveness in the workplace.

Steven is an active member and leader of various professional organizations. At the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA’s) Steven sits on one of the COAP Advisory Boards (Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession), and also serves as a team counselor and instructor for the COAP program. Steven is also a member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), National Society of Hispanic MBA’s, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Steven is President and Chairman of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (“ALPFA”) New York Chapter, a professional organization dedicated to enhancing opportunities and leadership development for Latino professionals and students in business related fields. Under his leadership the ALPFA organization has grown to a high level of quality collaboration between its members and corporate partners.

As a leader at both his profession and community, Steven has been recognized in various periodicals and magazines as well as been given leadership recognition, including the 2003 National ALPFA award; “Most Promising Professional in the Accounting Profession”, and in June 2004 Steven was recognized by his peers and the leadership at his former company, as one of the NY Metro winners of the Chairman’s Award. The Chairman’s Award is meant to celebrate excellence by singling out those employees who possess extraordinary qualities and skills such as; leadership, respect of others, collaboration, development of others, and the ability to inspire others.

Steven received his B.A. in Accounting & Information Systems from Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), and is a Certified Public Accountant.
